New IP Numbers and Sympatico Loves Us Again [Notice] 2004-05-18
Or, to be more accurate, they don't know who we are and so don't care
about us again. Which is good. We still have no idea why Sympatico
blocked our mail server, nor have even been able to get them to admit
that they did: but we have now migrated to our new IPs numbers and
the Sympatico mail is no longer blocked. We needed to change our IP
numbers for reasons unrelated to the Sympatico situation; it was just
a convenient coincidence that we could use this change to get around
the Sympatico problem. Please note that most mail destined for
Sympatico has now been delivered. There were about 4000 messages
accumulated in our queue, which took most of the evening to clear.
Most of the mail from this blockage were stored on our server and
resent when the block cleared, they were delayed rather than lost.
Regarding the IP number changes, all of the vex.net server IP numbers
have changed (the old IP numbers still work, but will be disabled in
a week or so). Next (this week) we will be migrating the Virtual
Domain hosting IP numbers. This process should be seemless and
   unnoticeable to most customers.

Suddenly, A New Shell Server [Warning] 2004-05-13
Looks like we pressed our luck on the old shell server too long; It
has gone down tonight, in which looks like it may be hardware
failure. I've decided the quickest way to get things mostly back up
is to swap the new FreeBSD shell server into place immediately. This
transition may be a bit rocky. A few servers are still being set up.
Most things should work for most people; but a few of you may find
some annoyances. For one: those running custom compiled software who
didn't recompile it for this shell previously will be forced to do so
now. None of this affects the web server or mail. Sorry for any
inconvenience. Things will be smoothed out as quickly as possible.
Report problems to support at Vex.Net.

   Shell.Vex.Net O/S Change Coming [Notice] 2004-03-03
A big change is heading shell.Vex.Net's way. Now that we have
migrated our main servers to FreeBSD, it is shell.Vex.Net's turn.

Most shell users should not actually notice any difference. But, a
few of you will have some adjustments to make: namely, any binaries
that users have compiled themselves will have to be rebuilt on the
   new O/S.

The good news is that nshell.vex.net is up and running, and ready to
start being used right away. All shell users are free to login via
ssh (telnet and ftp is not enabled yet, but will be soon) and test
things out. All home directories are mounted remotely on the server,
so it will be exactly like logging in to shell.vex.net. In fact users
who are so inclined are encouraged to use nshell.vex.net as much as
possible now rather than shell.vex.net so it can be well tested and
any oddities found before the final switch.

nshell.vex.net is still being worked on, so not everything on shell
is available there; but most things are. The few things not yet there
will be enabled soon. To check out what software is installed use the
   "pkg_info" command.

The final switch over probably won't be until the end of next week
(around the 20th). We will announce a more specific time as it gets
   closer.

If you need any help, or have any questions, email support at Vex.Net,
   as always.
