   Shell.Vex.Net O/S Change Coming [Notice] 2004-03-03
A big change is heading shell.Vex.Net's way. Now that we have
migrated our main servers to FreeBSD, it is shell.Vex.Net's turn.

Most shell users should not actually notice any difference. But, a
few of you will have some adjustments to make: namely, any binaries
that users have compiled themselves will have to be rebuilt on the
   new O/S.

The good news is that nshell.vex.net is up and running, and ready to
start being used right away. All shell users are free to login via
ssh (telnet and ftp is not enabled yet, but will be soon) and test
things out. All home directories are mounted remotely on the server,
so it will be exactly like logging in to shell.vex.net. In fact users
who are so inclined are encouraged to use nshell.vex.net as much as
possible now rather than shell.vex.net so it can be well tested and
any oddities found before the final switch.

nshell.vex.net is still being worked on, so not everything on shell
is available there; but most things are. The few things not yet there
will be enabled soon. To check out what software is installed use the
   "pkg_info" command.

The final switch over probably won't be until the end of next week
(around the 20th). We will announce a more specific time as it gets
   closer.

If you need any help, or have any questions, email support at Vex.Net,
   as always.

IMAP Mail Folders May Disappear + A Weird Message [Problem]
   2004-02-12
We ran into complications running the old IMAP server on the new
system and had to make quick switch to new software. The problem is
there is no standard as to the way folders are located in IMAP, and
may IMAP servers handle them in slightly different ways.

This affects webmail users, and anyone using IMAP mail clients to
read their mail online. You may have experienced, or are still
experiencing, difficulty seeing your folders. Rest assured the
folders are still on the server, it is just the IMAP server being a
little confused and not finding them.

We believe we have fixed the situation for the majority of users,
however the "fix" seems to have caused more complications for a few
users (for example, we have reports of at least one user using
Mozilla based IMAP still having problems).

If you use IMAP and still have any missing folders (even your inbox!)
please let us know, so we can figure out the best fix for your setup.

Also, there is a message which has appeared in many folders warning
you not to delete it. You can ignore this message, and delete it! The
old server used and hid this message for its own internal purposes,
but it is no longer needed, and unfortunately tends to just cause
   confusion.

We apologise for any inconvenience during this transition, but I
(Tim), at least, am very happy not to be using that old IMAP server
   any longer! Onwards and upwards...
